The watchlist of many Netflix subscribers will get a sudden boost today, because the streaming service has released the horror film unannounced. Sinners (2025) added to the offer. The acclaimed horror film by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was one of the big contenders at the Oscars this spring, and has previously appeared in various annual lists.
Dance floor
The dormant story of Sinners centers on two brothers who plan a new start in their hometown in Mississippi in the 1930s after years of working for the mafia in Chicago. The men open a bandstand where the blues reigns supreme, and of course there is also dancing at nightfall. But perhaps the two should have listened to the warnings of the local pastor…
Four figurines
Sinners scored like crazy in the spring of 2025, both with the public and with the critics, and that partly led to the film’s pole position heading into the 98th Oscar ceremony in March. In the end it was over One Battle After Another (2025) another celebrated newcomer that stood out in terms of praise and received the ultimate honor. The idiosyncratic horror title took four statuettes, including best cinematography.
Double role
Lead actor Michael B. Jordan also did not go home without a prize. He plays two roles in one: both that of ‘Smoke’, the older and more thoughtful of the twins, and that of ‘Stack’, the more brash. Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton and Jack O’Connell are also part of the cast.

7.5 Watch on Netflix • To escape their problematic lives, two twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start over.
Sinners is now streaming on Netflix.
