“Who ate the rice pudding?” » For the De Récondos, the question has not been resolved since 1936. One August morning, while the Battle of Irun was tearing apart the Spanish Basque Country, the family, opposed to the rebels of General Francisco Franco, fled in haste. So quickly that they leave this dessert prepared by their grandmother Enriqueta on the table. If they stay, they will be shot. They cross the Bidasoa bridge and stop at Hendaye: barely 150 meters covered, and a life turned upside down. A few weeks later, from the French bank, they saw Irun burning, razed to the ground by bombs.
