
The Mediterranean diet has long made Italy’s reputation. Rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes and olive oil, this dietary pattern is considered one of the most beneficial for health. However, the country is today among the most affected in Europe by childhood obesity, alongside Greece and Cyprus. According to data from OKkio alla Salute, Italy’s national monitoring system for childhood obesity, almost one in three children is obese.
