23 departments will be on heatwave orange vigilance during the day on Thursday, compared to 16 on Wednesday, but the Landes and Gironde, plagued by fires, will switch back to green from dawn thanks to a “clear cooling” on the Atlantic coast, Météo France announced on Wednesday July 29.
For Landes and Gironde, in the grip of a megafire for a week, if the “heat peak is intense, in a particularly difficult context, requiring particular vigilance” on Wednesday, these two departments will switch back to green from 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, Météo France underlines in its 4:00 p.m. bulletin.
“This decline is explained by a clear cooling which will take place on the Atlantic coast next night”, specifies Météo France, “while the strong heat intensifies in the east”.
The new departments in orange are those in the east and south-east, notably from the Alpes-Maritimes to Corsica, while 69 others will be on yellow alert.
