American President Donald Trump was back on Friday evening in front of the press at the traditional White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, during which he delivered a failed speech, according to political analyst Guillaume Lavoie.
Far from the expected exercise in self-deprecation, the Republican billionaire would have launched into a tirade considered disjointed, multiplying attacks against the media and reigniting the controversy over a possible third, or even fourth, term.
For Guillaume Lavoie, member of the Raoul-Dandurand Chair, the results are clear: Trump missed the opportunity.
“Donald Trump completely missed the mark. It was flat,” he said without mincing his words during an interview on LCN on Saturday.

The specialist in American and international politics recalls that this event follows a well-established ritual since Ronald Reagan. The president is supposed to make people laugh, start by making fun of himself, then conclude on a unifying note celebrating press freedom as a pillar of American democracy.
