Eight dead in Ukrainian strike
A Ukrainian strike on the Russian-occupied village of Kyrylivka in southern Ukraine killed eight people, including two children, the Moscow-appointed official who heads the Russian-controlled part of Ukraine’s Zaporizhia region said Saturday.
The village fell to Russian forces in the first days of the offensive against Ukraine in 2022. Since then there has been a surge in civilian casualties in the war between Russia and Ukraine this summer, with both sides intensifying their attacks.
A new drone shot down in Romania
Romania shot down a drone in its airspace on Saturday July 24, 9.6 kilometers west of Sfantu Gheorghe, in the Danube Delta, near the border with Ukraine for the second day in a row. On Friday, its forces shot down a Russian drone for the first time, about 114 kilometers from Bucharest, the capital.
A member of NATO, bordering Ukraine, Romania has been facing frequent drone incursions since 2022, some of which have crashed on its territory.
Two dead in Russian strike in Sumy
At least two people were killed and two others injured in a Russian drone strike in Sumy, northern Ukraine, the head of the local military administration, Sergii Kryvocheenko, announced.
These strikes come the day after a Russian missile attack against a demonstration of military equipment in the kyiv region, which killed at least ten people on Friday July 24 and injured nearly a hundred others to varying degrees. A bombing which once again raises questions about the security of this type of event in Ukraine.
Russia is preparing a new mobilization, according to Volodymyr Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday July 24 that he had received “clear information” from his intelligence services affirming that Russia, struggling on the front, is preparing a new wave of military mobilization this fall.
“Currently, the Russians are losing more soldiers on the front than they are recruiting, but (Vladimir) Putin still intends to increase the number of attacks and expand this war. He needs even more Russians to participate in the assaults,” he added.
In recent months, kyiv has managed to significantly slow down the advance of Russian troops and has increased strikes in depth on industrial sites in Russia and against the logistics of the Russian army.
