Biblical commentaries
Following his conversation with his disciples, Jesus explains to them the parable of the sower. The seed is the Word of God which God sheds abundantly. In the first three cases (the seed that falls by the wayside, the stony ground and the brambles), man hears the Word but does not understand it. You must have enough roots not to get discouraged in the face of sadness or persecution. Also, it is important to watch out for the traps of wealth and opulence, which come with pride as a corollary. It is only on good soil that the word is fruitful and bears much fruit.
“Each of us is ground on which the seed of the Word falls, no one is excluded. The Word is given to each of us,” commented Pope Francis (Angelus of July 12, 2020). God gives his Word generously. But he cannot force us to welcome it so that it penetrates our hearts and bears fruit. It is up to everyone to ensure this. Each floor could correspond to specific moments that we go through in life. These pass away but the Word of God remains. It is a guarantee of loyalty which constitutes a reason to cling to it throughout life.
