“This is the state of the sanctuary, well it’s still (very) hot…” In a video from the brothers of Saint-Jean, one of the monks films the disasters caused by the fire near the Notre-Dame de Grâce sanctuary in Cotignac. Already considered the largest of the year in Provence, with its 2,550 hectares up in smoke, the fire broke out on Tuesday July 21 in Pontevès, undoubtedly following the breakdown of an electric fence. Although the Var prefecture announced the next day that the fire was contained, the losses were numerous. In the early morning, in an apocalyptic setting, brother Yann Dominique moves around and films the unrecognizable surroundings of the site. He then directs the camera towards the buildings, which were spared. A “Blessed are you Lord for this miracle… Lord Jesus” breaks the silence.
