Two years after the publication of One Hundred Years of Solitude (2024– ), this summer it is time for the highly anticipated second part. With this book adaptation, Netflix took on the challenge of making the best of Gabriel García Márquez’s highly rated novel, and according to many viewers, the streaming service completely succeeded. The trailer for the sequel is now available to watch.
Peace is far away
After signing the Neerlandia truce in season 1, peace in Macondo still seems far away. The conservatives, fearing Colonel Aureliano Buendía, plan an attack that brings Fernanda del Carpio from Bogotá to the village. She marries Aureliano Segundo, Arcadio’s indomitable twin son, and with that Úrsula Iguarán gets her first legitimate grandchildren.
Meanwhile, twin brother José Arcadio Segundo is studying the ancient writings of José Arcadio Buendía. He continues the life’s work of the family head and succeeds in connecting Macondo with the outside world. With the arrival of the railway, the banana company also moves into the village, a change that at first seems to bring progress, but ultimately heralds the downfall of Macondo. In the trailer, the threat about the fate of the village hangs noticeably in the air:
Two parts
Due to the long period that has passed since the release of season 1 in 2024, the new episodes will undoubtedly feel like a follow-up season to many subscribers. In fact, the series is meant to be one story: Netflix just purposefully split the release. The episodes were shot entirely in Colombia and made with the support of García Márquez’s family. Laura Mora and Carlos Moreno serve as directors.
Although many actors (including leading actors Marleyda Soto and Claudio Cataño) return, a number of new names have also been cast for this second part. Ángela Cano, Emmanuel Restrepo and Estefanía Piñeres, among others, will join.
Part 2 of One Hundred Years of Solitude is from 5 augustus available on Netflix.
