Alejandra wanted nothing more in the world than to become a mother, but she couldn’t. After suffering multiple miscarriages and facing increasing pressure from her in-laws, she is pushed to her limits. She is forced to make a desperate decision: fake a pregnancy. However, the pressure to maintain this sophisticated lie pushes her to cross an irreversible border, resulting in the media scandal that shocked all of Mexico in 2009.

Oscar nomination
A Child of My Own is the work of the Chilean documentary maker Maite Alberdi. She made earlier The Eternal Memory (2023) in The place of the other (2024). Her acclaimed documentary The Mole Agent (2020), about an infiltrator in a retirement home, even received an Oscar nomination. The trailer of her latest work can now be seen.
