Netflix has shared a promising update on The Roman, a brand new series set on Las Vegas’ famed casino strip. A leading actor had already been roped in, but the star cast of the project is now starting to take serious shape.

In December, it was announced that the streaming service was working on a drama series set in Vegas, appropriately enough with Casino director Martin Scorsese as one of the executive producers. In May, the signing of Oscar Isaac as lead actor was reported. Guillermo Del Toro’s star Frankenstein (2025) starred in The Card Counter (2021) a gambler and former soldier who visits the poker tables.
Two permanent names
This week the cast of The Roman further expanded. The names of Betty Gilpin, David Costabile and the rehabilitated Alec Baldwin were already confirmed, and now Vincent D’Onofrio and Kate Mara are added. D’Onofrio was seen again this spring as Wilson Fisk in the Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again (2025– ), while Mara after her role in the much-discussed hit series House of Cards (2013–2018) among others A Teacher (2020) played.
Leading position
In the series, Isaac plays the boss of the strip’s best-running casino, who has to make clever plans to ensure that he does not lose his leading position. The story is set in a modernized, but still menacing and seductive version of the legendary city. The creators and screenwriters are Brian Koppelman and David Levien, who previously wrote seven seasons of Billions (2016–2023) in the right direction.

In addition to Mara and D’Onofrio, The Penguin actor Clancy Brown, Thomas Sadoski and Jason Schwartzman are also joining the cast, albeit not in regular roles. When the eight episodes of season 1 of The Roman will appear on Netflix is not yet known.
