The Batman Part II (2028) has been in the pipeline for so long that it is sometimes easy to forget that the sequel is really on the way. This week, director Matt Reeves further raises expectations after several cast reveals by sharing the first images. At the same time, there is also bad news about the release.
Back from being away
In a so-called ‘camera test trailer’ we see the horned figure of our ‘watchful guardian’ gradually emerge from a grim glow. What Pattinson looks like as Batman is of course no longer a scoop. But after the release of part one in 2022, it will be the first time in four years that we get a glimpse of the cloaked (anti?) hero:
Newcomers
Warner Bros. wisely limited the release of the images to the sight of Pattinson, and so we still have to wait for snapshots of newcomers such as Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson. We already know that Stan will succeed Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent (/Two-Face).
Shift
With this first teaser the release feels like The Batman Part II one step closer, and yet it will still take a year and a half before the film actually appears in cinemas. Warner Bros. has shifted the sequel to February 2028which was first scheduled for release in October 2027. The shift has to do with the release of JJ Abrams’ science fiction film The Great Beyond (2026), which now occupies the October slot. Wednesday star Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell star.
