Universal Pictures releases the first trailer for The Incomer (2026), a new drama from Scottish writer and director Louis Paxton. The film is set on a remote Scottish island and revolves around a special encounter that turns the lives of two residents upside down.
A battle for their home
Brother and sister Isla and Sandy have lived their entire lives in isolation, protecting their island from outsiders. When the government sends an official to the island to make them leave, their peaceful existence comes under great pressure. The government employee Daniel, played by Domhnall Gleeson (About Time (2013)), arrives with the assignment to return the island to the government. What starts as a tense confrontation slowly grows into an unexpected bond. Together the three are confronted with their fears, loneliness and the myths that surround the island.
Directorial debut
Met The Incomer Louis Paxton makes his feature film debut. He previously directed several short films and episodes of the BBC crime series Shetland (2013– ).
Strong cast
In addition to Domhnall Gleeson, the cast includes Gayle Rankin (GLOW (2017–2019)) as Isla and Grant O’Rourke (Outlander (2014-2026)) as Sandy. Ok Emun Elliott, Michelle Gomez and John Hannah (The Mummy (1999)) can be seen. Hannah voices a mysterious mythological sea creature closely linked to Isla’s story.
