Apple Original Films shares the first trailer for Mayday (2026), a new action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds (Free Guy (2021)) and Kenneth Branagh (Death on the Nile (2022)) in the leading roles. The film will be released this fall on Apple TV.
Dangerous mission during the Cold War
In Mayday Reynolds plays U.S. Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly, who is sent on a top-secret mission to Russian territory during the height of the Cold War. When the operation goes completely wrong, he finds himself stranded behind enemy lines. There he crosses paths with Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a gruff former KGB agent with a striking fascination with American culture. Although the two initially distrust each other, their unlikely collaboration grows into an adventure full of action, humor and unexpected friendship.
Strong cast and well-known makers
In addition to Reynolds and Branagh, the cast includes Marcin Dorociński (Pitbull (2021)), Maria Bakalova (Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)) in David Morse (The Green Mile (1999)).
The film was written, directed and produced by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the duo behind, among others Game Night (2018)in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023).
