“I have recommended to Governor Henry McMaster that Lindsey Graham’s awesome sister, Darline, serve as Acting Senator from the great state of South Carolina,” Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“It would be a wonderful tribute to Lindsey, who adored him dearly,” he added.
Governor McMaster must announce at 4:00 p.m. the identity of the person who will serve in this role until January.

Lindsey Graham planned to run for re-election in November in his stronghold of South Carolina (southeast) and the Republican Party must now organize a new primary to nominate a candidate.
The senator’s office announced on Sunday, at 2:00 a.m., his death late Saturday evening “following a brief and sudden illness”, then citing as the cause an aortic dissection following a cardiac pathology.
A central figure in the interventionist camp in Washington, he defended American participation in the second Gulf War, urged the Biden and then Trump administrations in recent years to support Kyiv’s fight against the Russian invasion, and has long advocated a military campaign against Tehran.
Donald Trump hailed Lindsey Graham as “one of the greatest people and senators” he has ever known and ordered American flags to be flown at half-mast across the country until next Saturday.
