Fans of Stephen King’s stories probably won’t have to wait much longer for the new series Carrie. Although Prime Video has still not announced an official release date, it has now been confirmed that the horror series will be released before the end of this calendar year. Several cast members have also hinted that an October release is quite likely.
Telekinetic powers
Carrie is based on King’s 1974 debut novel of the same name and is produced by Mike Flanagan. Flanagan is known for productions such as Doctor Sleep (2019), The Haunting of Hill House (2018) in The Fall of the House of Usher (2023). The role of Carrie will be played by Summer H. Howell, who was chosen from as many as 1,800 applicants, according to Flanagan. The story once again centers on Carrie White, a shy teenager who is bullied at school and oppressed at home by her strict religious mother. When a cruel prank at prom goes completely wrong, Carrie unleashes her telekinetic powers with devastating consequences.
Fifty years
In addition to Howell, the cast includes Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder, Heather Graham and Katee Sackhoff. It is striking that, according to the current schedule, the series will be released exactly fifty years after the classic film adaptation Carrie (1976) was released in theaters.
