Now the filming of the eighth season of Virgin River (2019– ) are in full swing and the series is now Netflix’s longest-running drama series, fans are starting to worry about how much longer they can enjoy their favorite characters. There is good news for those who are starting to fear, for the time being there appear to be no plans to pull the plug.
At our beck and call
Jinny Howe, head of Netflix scripted series, was asked about the future of Virgin River. She gave a telling answer:
All I’m saying is that fans of this series will continue to get what they want for as long as they want it.
According to Howe, Netflix is also carefully considering how the streaming service can continue to serve its loyal fan base and at the same time monitor the quality of the series. In other words, who hopes for many more seasons Virgin River must above all continue to watch faithfully.
Their stories have been told
Virgin Riverbased on the books by Robyn Carr, premiered in 2019 and became one of Netflix’s biggest romantic successes. The series revolves around Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan and their lives in the village of the same name. Although, according to Netflix, the series can in principle continue for a while, we will soon say goodbye to some regular characters, including Ricky, Cameron, Mike and Charmaine. Production manager Patrick Sean Smith previously announced that some characters have told their stories and that there should be room for new faces in the short term to keep the series fresh.
