
It took a little less than two hours for senators to reject for the third time, Tuesday July 7, 2026, the proposed law on assisted dying. A rejection which follows the vote on the preliminary question presented by the LR rapporteurs of the text, Christine Bonfanti-Dossat (Lot-et-Garonne) and Alain Milon (Vaucluse), narrowly passed with 169 votes for and 164 votes against – and 11 abstentions. Five votes which make all the difference for the adoption of this motion of rejection which, in accordance with the rules of the Upper House, put an immediate end to the deliberation before it even began.
