Millie Bobby Brown recently retired from her role as Eleven after almost ten years Stranger Things (2016–2025). Although the brothers have announced that this is the end of the series, Brown is not quite done with the role, the actress said in a recent interview. If it were up to the actress, she would simply make a comeback as Eleven in a few years.
Is Eleven still alive?
Brown was to promote her latest film Enola Holmes 3 (2026) as a guest in a podcast by presenter Mike DeAngelo. Because his son is a big fan of Stranger Thingsand more specifically Eleven, it was also about the science fiction series. DeAngelo’s son, like many other fans of the series, had a burning question for Brown: “What actually happened at the end of Stranger Things?”
To be honest, I don’t really know either. Objectively, it looks like Eleven is dead, but then there’s a chance that’s not the case. Maybe she’s smarter than everyone thinks and got away. Only me and the Duffer brothers know what the real truth is.

Remarkably, Brown seems to contradict himself. Her statements give the impression that she remains deliberately vague about Eleven’s fate without wanting to confirm or refute the open ending of the series.
The future of Eleven
Brown’s vague answer could have everything to do with her future prospects for Eleven. In a subsequent question, the actress was asked if she would be willing to reprise the role of Eleven in a few years:
I would love that. I’m not done with El yet. I love her so much. I was very satisfied with the ending, but it was difficult to accept. I’d love to see what she does in her thirties. That seems very interesting to me. I hope others would also find this interesting, but of course that is only possible if she is still alive.
