Netflix revisits one of the most famous unsolved murder cases in American history. The streaming service has announced that Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen will star in the new miniseries Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey. It is striking that Netflix recently looked into the same matter Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey (2024).
Handwritten ransom note
The new series tells the story of the murder of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey, a case that has occupied people’s minds for almost thirty years. On the morning of December 26, 1996, the Ramsey family raised the alarm after their daughter appeared to be missing. A handwritten ransom note was found in the home. However, several hours later, JonBenét was found lifeless in the basement of the house in Boulder, Colorado. The autopsy revealed that JonBenét had suffered a skull fracture and was killed by strangulation. Police ruled her death a homicide.
Redemptive DNA research
The case surrounding JonBenét was in the spotlight from the first second. The 6-year-old girl was a well-known face in the world of children’s beauty competitions. In addition, she came from a very wealthy family. Not only parents Patsy and John Ramsey were seen as suspects for years, but JonBenét’s 9-year-old brother also did not escape suspicion. Although many are still convinced that her own family was involved in the murder, later DNA research pointed to an unknown man. To this day, no one has been convicted of the murder and the case remains an open investigation.
Release date
In the new drama series, Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen take on the role of parents Patsy and John. The cast also includes Emily Mitchell, Garett Hedlund, Alison Pill, Shea Whigham and Clifton Collins Jr.. An exact release date has not yet been announced, but Netflix has announced that the release is planned for next winter.
