The result of the night
South Africa – Canada (score 1-0): Co-organizer of the World Cup with the United States and Mexico, Canada had the honor of launching the round of 16 of the competition. During their two previous World Cups, in 1986 and 2022, the “Canucks” did not make it out of the group stage. They had never won a match in the planetary tournament.
On Sunday, an added time goal from their captain Stephen Eustaquio allowed them to qualify for the round of 16 against South Africa. On a poorly cleared ball, Stephen Eustaquio managed a sequence of chest control shots at the entrance to the area which delivered his team (90th + 2).
The Canadians will travel to Houston on July 4 to challenge either the Netherlands or Morocco, two teams of a higher caliber than South Africa, which especially focused on defending well on Sunday.

The evening begins with the confrontation between Brazil and Japan from 7 p.m., before Germany-Paraguay at 10:30 p.m.
Later in the night, the Netherlands will face Morocco starting at 3 a.m.
