Last week, actress Geena Davis spoke out about the striking cancellation of The Boroughs (2026). The series not only managed to achieve an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 97%, but was also in the Netflix top 10 for weeks. Now new figures show that the series performed even better than previously thought.
Better than the rest
The new figures come from Nielsen, the American research agency that maps viewing behavior on all major streaming services on a weekly basis. The Boroughs debuted at second place in the rankings and climbed to first position a week later. That made it The Boroughs series als Spider-Black (2026– ) in Euphoria (2019–2026) in. That is striking The Boroughs in that week was good for no less than 1.74 billion minutes watched, while Netflix series The Four Seasons (2025– ) with 782 million viewed minutes was recently extended for a third season.
Hard series
The makers of The Boroughs initially planned to make three seasons. According to recent information, the cost of the series would have been around $10 million per episode. This makes the sci-fi one of the more expensive Netflix series of the moment. Even with the high costs in mind, the cancellation remains a striking decision given its great success. For a while there were still speculations that the cancellation would come from the makers, the Duffer brothers. They would leave Netflix for Paramount, but a source within Netflix denied that this played a role.
