Sarthe, Indre-et-Loire, Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Charente, Haute-Vienne, Creuse, Dordogne, Corrèze, Lot-et-Garonne, Lot, Tarn-et-Garonne and Tarn will be downgraded to orange on Saturday morning, according to the organization.
6:09 a.m. – Climate change, “unequivocal” cause
Climate change is “unequivocally” responsible for the intensity of the heatwave hitting Western Europe, which would have been virtually impossible 50 years ago, says the World Weather Attribution (WWA) group of scientists in a study.
Very high temperatures during the day, but also at night, would have been “practically impossible” at this time of year in 1976, conclude these researchers, who seek to attribute the responsibility of climate change of human origin to extreme weather events.
6:06 a.m. – More than 850,000 middle school students take the certificate
This morning, more than 850,000 middle school students are taking the written French certificate for the new formula, marked in particular by a less decisive continuous assessment and a revised grading system, a test maintained despite the heatwave but which must benefit from adjustments.
“It’s obviously not ideal,” conceded Education Minister Édouard Geffray the day before. “But this test is in the morning, so not in the afternoon at the hottest time,” he continued, recalling that the test was specially designed for the occasion.
6:01 a.m. – 61 departments on red alert
Sixty-one departments are placed on red alert for heatwaves from midday and 25 on orange alert, Météo France announced.
“The warmer air will gradually shift towards the east of the country, while a locally marked stormy deterioration on Thursday at the end of the day will bring relatively cooler air from the west,” underlines Météo France, which also forecasts “a gradual drop in temperatures across the Atlantic coast”.
