The first official images of the new film adaptation of Sense and Sensibility (2026) have been released. This gives fans their first glimpse of the long-awaited return of Jane Austen’s beloved classic to the big screen. Those curious about more don’t have to wait much longer: the first trailer will be released later today.
The Dashwood sisters
The romantic costume drama tells the well-known story of sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, who, together with their mother and younger sister, have to leave their comfortable lives behind after the death of their father. In 18th century England, they try to build a new future, while love, loss and societal expectations profoundly influence their lives.

Strong cast
In the leading roles we see Daisy Edgar-Jones as the thoughtful Elinor Dashwood and Esmé Creed-Miles as her impulsive sister Marianne.

The rest of the cast also looks impressive. Caitriona Balfe (Outlander (2014–2026)) plays Mrs. Dashwood, while George MacKay (1917 (2019)) can be seen as Edward Ferrars, Elinor’s great love. Furthermore, Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve (2018–2022)), Frank Dillane (Fear the Walking Dead (2015–2023)), Herbert Nordrum (The Worst Person in the World (2021)) en Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet (2025)) is part of the ensemble.
It is directed by Georgia Oakley, who previously Blue Jean (2022) made.

Previous film adaptation
It is not the first time that Jane Austen’s classic has been adapted into a film. Sense and Sensibility (1995), starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and is still considered one of the most beloved Austen films.
