Google and film studio A24 have announced a striking collaboration: Google’s AI research lab DeepMind will work with A24 and its filmmakers to create new AI tools that help develop films. As part of the deal, Google will invest approximately $75 million in the studio.
Narrative possibilities enhanced
A24 and Google’s DeepMind want to jointly develop workflows, tools and techniques for both creating and distributing films. According to Google’s official press release, this is a multi-year collaboration, through which the studio and its creators can help build technology that can enhance their own vision and narrative capabilities. Google will not have access to A24’s film catalogue.
We believe the best way to develop tools that empower artists is to work directly with them.

No concrete plans yet
What exactly the collaboration will yield remains unclear for the time being. The initial focus is on connecting the latest technology with the next generation of entertainment, but the specific goals, technology outcomes and creative milestones will evolve over time.
Not the first major investor
It is the first time for Google to take an interest in a film studio. The investment amounts to 75 million dollars. It is not the first major investor in A24: Thrive already invested $75 million in A24 in 2024.
