Sean Penn recently won an Oscar for his role in One Battle After Another (2025), but that doesn’t mean the legendary actor is sitting still. In fact, his latest project is starting to take shape. Deadline shares that Penn is busy directing and shooting his latest film!
‘Special project’
We know Sean Penn from his roles in top films such as Mystic River (2003) and most recently in One Battle After Anotherbut also directed many films in his career. After, among other things, the acclaimed Into the Wild (2007), it is now time for a new film. Deadline reports this. According to the entertainment website, Penn puts a lot of time and effort into a ‘special project’.

Storming the Capitol
This passion project focuses on the riots at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. The yet-untitled film follows a police officer who becomes involved in the riots. Penn also wrote the script for this film, which was produced in collaboration with Warner Bros. is made. While no deal has been finalized yet, Deadline shares that Bradley Cooper may star in the upcoming thriller.
When to see?
The shooting of the thriller will start in 2027. Unfortunately, it is still unknown when the film about the storming of the Capitol will be released in theaters.
