The acclaimed Studio Ghibli film Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989) will soon be remade by BBC Studios. The production company is working hard on a series adaptation of the book of the same name. Both Deadline and Variety reported this today.

Hayao Miyazaki has made countless animated films in his career, all of which are favorites with viewers. For example, he made for Studio Ghibli Healing (2008), Spirited Away (2001) in Howl’s Moving Castle (2004). In 1989 he also came up with Kiki’s Delivery Servicean anime adaptation of Eiko Kadono’s 1985 book of the same name.
High ratings
Studio Ghibli’s Kiki’s Delivery Service received critical acclaim and was extremely well attended at the cinema. The anime still holds an impressive 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes today. In 2014, another adaptation of the book was published, this time in live-action, but now BBC Studios is also going to take a chance for the 40th anniversary.

New live action
Variety in Deadline report that BBC Studios is currently working hard on a live-action of Kiki’s Delivery Service. The new adaptation will consist of ten episodes of half an hour each. Like the original, the series follows a young witch in training and her adventures as she sets up a courier service in a small town.
