
Netflix added a special film to its offering this week. The critically acclaimed drama film has been released since Monday Rachel Getting Married (2008) by director Jonathan Demme to stream. The film marked an important turning point in the career of lead actress Anne Hathaway and even earned her an Oscar nomination for best actress.
Leaving rehab temporarily
Demme is best known to many film fans for classics such as The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Philadelphia (1993) in Adaptation. (2002). In Rachel Getting Married Hathaway stars in the role of Kym, a young woman who is temporarily allowed to leave a rehab clinic to attend her sister Rachel’s wedding. What should have been a festive weekend quickly turns into an emotional confrontation with old pain, family conflicts and unprocessed traumas.
Successful
The film was well received by critics. The performances of Hathaway and Rosemarie DeWitt, who can be seen in the role of Rachel, were particularly praised. The film also appeared in dozens of top 10 lists, including Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, Daily News and The Washington Post. The film was shot in just 33 days on a budget of around $12 million dollars.
