With the success of Lilo & Stitch (2025), a sequel could hardly be avoided. The second live-action film is now well and truly on its way. This weekend is both the release date Lilo & Stitch 2 (2028) announced as the director. Chris Sanders will direct and the film is expected to hit theaters in May 2028.
New director announced
Sanders is no stranger to the franchise. He was already partly responsible for both the direction and the screenplay of the first film. Moreover, he has been providing the familiar and well-known voice of Stitch for years, in both animated films and live-action. In addition to Sanders, producers Jonathan Eirich and Ryan Halprin will also return to the franchise. With Sanders on board, filming will start later this year.
What is known about the sequel
It is not yet known where Lilo & Stitch 2 is about. No official details about the plot have been released yet. The only thing that has been confirmed is that it will not be a remake of a previous animated film, but a completely new story. However, Eirich has previously said that the world of Lilo & Stitch still contains many characters that can be explored further. Fans are mainly hoping for a live-action debut from Angel. In addition, the cast has indicated that they would like to see more of the relationship between Nani and David, but these are personal wishes of the actors and not official plot details.
