The responses to Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 (2026– ) were anything but unanimous. While some were thrilled with the animated expansion of the popular universe, others felt that the spin-off could not match the original series. All in all, the animation seems to have attracted enough viewers to convince Netflix. The streaming service has announced that the second season will be released this fall.
A future full Stranger Things
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 premiered in April as the first official spin-off of Stranger Things (2016–2025). Despite the mixed reception, Netflix decided within a week to renew the series for a second season. The new episodes are expected on the platform before the end of 2026. In addition to this animated series, a second spin-off is also being worked on. However, according to the Duffer brothers, that series will not be a continuation of the story of Eleven, Mike or the other residents of Hawkins. Instead, the brothers will focus on a new story.
Same characters, new voices
The events in Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 take place between the second and third seasons. None of the cast members from the original series are heard in the animation. For some, the completely new voice cast took some getting used to, but the new actors are generally praised for their performances. The main roles are voiced by Davey Norstedt, Luca Diaz, Braxton Quinney, Jolie Joang-Rappaport, Elisha Williams and Benjamin Plessala.
