Netflix is further expanding its sports offering during the 2026 World Cup with a striking collaboration: the popular football podcast The Rest Is Football (2026– ) gets a daily show on the streaming platform. The trailer has now been released and it gives a preview of the tone.
Daily World Cup show
The World Cup show will see football legends Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards share their analysis, reactions and conversations about the World Cup matches every day. The episodes will also feature interviews, additional guests and footage from locations in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Netflix is focusing on sports content
The move fits within Netflix’s broader strategy to offer more live and sports-related content. In addition to many sports documentaries such as Rafa (2026) in Ronaldinho: The One and Only (2026), the streaming service was already experimenting with live sporting events and specials.
Big names from English football
This collaboration marks the first time that a major international football podcast is converted into a daily series for the World Cup. The strength of the program lies with the three regular hosts. Lineker, Shearer and Richards are among the best-known football analysts in the United Kingdom. Their mutual dynamic has been an important part of the podcast’s success for years.

The Rest Is Football (2026‑ )
Gary Lineker & Alan Shearer and Micah Richards present current debates, strong opinions and scandalous stories from their careers.
Release date
The Rest Is Football is from 10 June can be seen daily on Netflix during the World Cup.
