A Catholic humanitarian association founded in 2015, Caridad was born in Brittany, responding to the call of Pope Francis: “May the lay faithful fulfill their specific mission, the mission they received at baptism, by putting their creativity at the service of the challenges of today’s world.” And from the start, with a guideline: to promote charity throughout the world and to distinguish itself within the international charitable landscape through concrete missions, carried out by actors on the ground.
Action in the service of humanitarianism
The association’s first mission land outside France, Latin America left its mark on Caridad by giving it its name. Originally titled Cross-border Fraternity, the association then became Caridad, “charity” in Spanish to pay tribute to the gratitude of the first beneficiaries of its action. During this first decade, it continued to develop its action around the assistance and protection of children, development aid, access to care, emergency humanitarian response and, in the background, support for the mission of the Church. Currently, 155 projects have been completed. We can cite in particular support for a school in Aleppo scarred by the war in Syria, economic reintegration micro-projects for lepers in India, participation in an innovative program against malnutrition in Benin, help with access to drinking water in Burkina Faso… the examples are numerous and extremely varied.
