HBO Max has released the first trailer for the third season of House of the Dragon (2022– ) released. The images make it clear that season 3 will be full of action and bloodshed. Fans are treated to enormous battles and spectacular dragon fights.
War finally breaks out completely
While season two was mainly about political tensions and the build-up to war, season three seems to focus directly on large-scale action. The trailer shows burning ships, destroyed castles and violent confrontations. Several dragons are involved again during the battle for the Iron Throne.
According to showrunner Ryan Condal, the new season will be “an all-out war.” Various media even describe the upcoming episodes as the largest and most spectacular of the entire franchise.
Major role for the Battle of the Gullet
The trailer also hints at the long-awaited Battle of the Gullet, a huge naval battle from the books by George RR Martin. The sea battle promises to be one of the biggest action scenes in the history of the franchise. Alongside Emma D’Arcy (Digger (2026), Mothering Sunday (2021)) as Rhaenyra Targaryen also returns, among others, Matt Smith (Doctor Who (1996), The Crown (2016–2023)) not Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One (2018), Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015)) returns for its third season.
