Another update on the cast of the eighth season of Virgin River (2019– ). After news of the arrival of the mysterious Eddie (Mitchell Slaggert), the series also welcomes a new doctor at Doc’s (Tim Matheson) clinic. And that’s not all, because the actress who will play the role could just be a so-called ‘regular’ Virgin River can be.
Probationary period
After Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Doctor Cameron (Mark Ghanimé), Astrid arrives at Doc’s clinic in season 8. The character is described as a confident surgeon who is put on probation with Doc under strange circumstances. Astrid appears to be lacking in good manners, and she is determined to leave Virgin River so she can do her job higher up.

Option for a longer stay
If you read that last sentence, you would think that Natasha Calis (of SkyMed (2022– )) has been cast for a short stay, but it appears that the actress would indeed become a permanent cast member. If she is successful in her role in Season 8, Calis has an option to stay on board for Season 9 and any subsequent seasons. It would be the first returning newcomer for the Netflix series since Kandyse McClure (Kaia Bryant) in season 5.

Doc’s choice
It is estimated that Astrid’s arrival is related to the (controversial) choice that Doc made in season 7 to collaborate with Grace Valley Hospital. One of Astrid’s opponents will probably be the other newcomer Eddie (Slaggert).
