Lovers of stop-motion animation can soon indulge in I am Frankelda on Netflix. The Mexican film about the power of imagination was released today by the streaming service.
When the monsters come alive
The title character is a gifted writer in 19th century Mexico whose dark stories are ignored and dismissed. Although she is forced to suppress her voice, she refuses to give up, even as many try to silence her. But when she is plunged into her subconscious, the monsters she has created come to life.
Help from Del Toro
I am Frankelda (original Spanish title: I’m Frankelda) is a creation of Arturo and Roy Ambriz, who as brothers run their own animation studio in Mexico City. Who knows the name of Guillermo Del Toro (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (2022)) is absolutely right: Del Toro helped the brothers to complete the necessary deal with Netflix.
