Canadian actor Stew Mclean, who can be seen in the Netflix series Virgin River (2019– ), was found dead after being missing for more than a week. Police in British Columbia, Canada suspect that the 45-year-old actor was a victim of murder. His remains were found yesterday in Lions Bay, near his hometown.
McLean as an actor
Mclean was last seen on May 15 at his home in Lions Bay, just north of Vancouver. After he failed to show up on a scheduled shooting day, friends raised the alarm. He was officially reported missing last Monday. Not much later, detectives from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over the investigation.
Mclean has worked continuously as an actor for more than ten years, mainly in Canadian productions. In recent years he has appeared in, among others Arrow (2012–2020), Supernatural (2005–2020), Travelers (2016–2018), Loudermilk (2017–2021) in Beyond (2017–2018). Just a few months ago we saw McLean in the seventh season of Virgin Riveras a non-recurring character.
Missing and death
Actor and acting coach Jeff Seymour became seriously concerned about his friend and colleague McLean when he failed to show up for a scheduled day of shooting. The two had known each other for about eight years and became friends after McLean took coaching sessions with Seymour. The actors had recently seen each other in Los Angeles.
He was extremely precise in everything he did, so there was no chance that he would have simply missed the shoot or overslept. As soon as I heard he hadn’t shown up on Saturday morning, I knew there was big trouble.

Searches for McLean began Wednesday in and around Lions Bay. According to the search team, suspicious evidence was quickly found during the search, after which the investigation was transferred to the homicide team. Yesterday, McLean’s remains were found near the railway tracks opposite his home in Lions Bay. CCTV footage is currently being viewed to reconstruct the actor’s last days and find out what happened.
Management confirms death
Lucas Talent Inc., the agency that represented McLean, has now confirmed the actor’s death. In an emotional statement, officer Jodi Caplan said it was with great sadness that they said goodbye to their beloved client. She described McLean as someone with a great sense of humor who was loved by everyone he worked with.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the actor’s death continues. Police are asking anyone who may know more about the disappearance or the circumstances surrounding his death to report to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
