“It took more than 13 years (since a first British decision to extradite Julian Assange to Sweden, editor's note) for British justice to make the decision… TO WAIT AGAIN!”, mocked the door on Telegram -spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“The entire judicial system of the Kingdom has turned into a farce, it is a joke before the eyes of the whole world. All this is an outrage on human dignity carried out by a terribly ineffective and punitive pseudo-justice,” she further argued.
According to Ms. Zakharova, Julian Assange is the “victim” of a “corrupt” British justice system for having “devoted his life to revealing the secrets” of the British and American secret services.
British justice on Tuesday asked the United States for new guarantees regarding the treatment that would be reserved for Julian Assange, under penalty of granting him a last appeal in the United Kingdom against his extradition.
Judges at the High Court in London have given a three-week deadline to the American authorities, who want to try the 52-year-old Australian for a massive leak of confidential documents.
According to a summary of the judgment, this is to ensure that in the United States Julian Assange will be able to benefit from the first amendment of the American Constitution which protects freedom of expression and that he will not be sentenced to the penalty of dead.
