Tax on plane tickets: “legitimate” project for Minister Durovray

The increase in the tax on airline tickets, planned in the 2025 budget, is ” legitimate “ and will be done in a balanced manner, said Thursday the Minister of Transport, François Durovray, on the sidelines of a trip to one of the Airbus sites near Toulouse.

“In the finance bill, there is indeed an increase in the tax on plane tickets, which seems legitimate to me given the weight of aviation in greenhouse gas emissions”the minister explained to the press in a hangar housing one of the aeronautical giant’s assembly lines in Blagnac (Haute-Garonne), recalling that aviation represented “around 3%” of these emissions.

This increase project has “resulted in very detailed work with all the airlines to make it both bearable” and that this can “also preserve the companies and the French flag”he estimated.

“Today there is a balanced project which allows us to respond to these industrial, commercial and environmental challenges as well”according to the minister.

Concerning this tax, the government said in mid-October that it would be attentive to the consequences of its increase on plane tickets for the populations of Overseas.

Mr. Durovray also judged “feasible” the objective of total decarbonization of the aeronautics sector by 2025.

In this context, France has “an essential role to play” car “today, Airbus accounts for more than half of the planes delivered in the world”he said.

“Airbus is fully involved in these issues”welcomed the minister, judging that “If this shift is not made, we know very well that French aviation, European aviation will not be able to play the same role as today”.
