The president of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, has conveyed to the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, the “need” for Spain to adopt anti-squatting legislation as one of the measures to confront the housing crisis, while at the same time committed to building more homes instead of intervening in the market. This was revealed by López Miras in the press conference following the bilateral meeting that he held this Friday with Sánchez at the Palacio de La Moncloa, where he detailed that, among the issues they addressed, the housing problem was also discussed. . At this point, the Murcian president has explained his Government’s proposal to reduce VAT on the purchase of the first home from 10 to 4%, as well as reiterated the “need” for Spain to have anti-squatting legislation. . “In no country is it understood what is happening in our country, that a home can be occupied or that a tenant can stop paying the rent and can continue occupying that home, as I say, in no country do they explain it and have a solution through legislation,” he said. And in light of the application of the Housing Law in areas such as Catalonia, López Miras has questioned its effectiveness, ensuring that “intervening in the market has never given good results”, specifying that no municipality in Murcia has requested the establishment of a tense area in terms of housing. . “We need more homes, many more homes. Sánchez announced during the campaign the construction of 183,000 homes and I don’t know if any of them have already started,” he stated.
