An inmate escapes during a break at a motorway rest area in Doubs

Sentenced to eight years in prison on Thursday by the Besançon Court of Appeal, a 36-year-old man fled during his transfer to the Lyon Corbas remand center in the Rhône. The escape took place on the Bois des Potets motorway area, along the A36 between Besançon and Beaune (Côte-d’Or), reported Julie Fergane, public prosecutor of Lons-Le- Saunier.

Taking advantage of a requested stop to go to the toilet, the detainee violently attacked one of the escorting officers, causing two others to fall, and fled. “Violence was committed against one of the agents,” said the magistrate in a press release.

Convicted of serious offenses

A few hours before this escape, the man had been tried for serious acts committed in Jura in 2020, including “threat”, “unauthorized acquisition and possession of war material” and “aggravated extortion”. However, he was acquitted for criminal conspiracy.

A judicial investigation was opened for “escape with violence”. The research was entrusted to the Dole brigade with the support of the Besançon research section.
