The RoboCop franchise has expanded considerably since its release in 1987. We have several films, TV series and games. Fans are not done with that yet, because soon we can also expect a new series based on Paul Verhoeven’s cyberpunk film. Prime Video comes with a new one RoboCop-serie.
Reboot
Paul Verhoeven broke through in Hollywood in the 1980s with RoboCop. The cyberpunk film with Peter Weller was released in 1987 and marked the start of the franchise that would grow into a popular (but not always successful) series. Prime Video is also participating in this, because according to Variety, the streaming service is working on a series!
‘Ahead of time’
Ed Neumeier wrote the original film from the eighties and is also involved as a screenwriter on the new series, which will ultimately have 8 episodes. Horror icon James Wan (Insidious (2010)) to the new one RoboCoptitle from Prime Video. “I’ve been a huge fan of it for a long time Robocop. Paul Verhoeven was with him RoboCop way ahead of its time in 1987,” said Wan. “The story tackled questions about technology, identity and the growing power of big corporations. These questions have only become more urgent.” Unfortunately, it is not known when the series will appear or who we will see in the cast.

When esteemed cop Alex Murphy is shot by criminals, scientists and doctors manage to save him. They convert him into a very strong semi-robot, called RoboCop. With his modern weapons he quickly makes the dangerous streets of Detroit safe again. But despite his steel armor, he is still troubled by memories of his old life. In intense dreams he sees again and again how he was shot. Now he doesn’t just want to enforce the law… he wants revenge.
