Big scandal
You can now watch the latest true crime documentary on Netflix A Toxic Love Story. In an upscale California suburb, the arrest of a young woman causes a major scandal. She is accused of plotting a violent revenge attack against her ex’s new wife.
Deception
But behind this media spectacle lies a well-thought-out web of deception that conceals the real truth. As the investigation progresses and the layers of betrayal are peeled back, the line between victim and perpetrator becomes blurred. In this complex card game, everyone plays a role, and nothing is as it seems. You can see the story on Netflix from today.
‘Human story’
A Toxic Love Story was created by Alexandra Lacey, who immediately had a fascination with the story. “I came across this story years before the final denouement,” the documentary maker explains to Netflix. “Even then I had the feeling that there was more to it than what was reported in the news, which is why it has always stayed with me. (…) When the full story finally came to light, it became clear that this offered the opportunity to tell something much bigger, a human story about deception, trauma and the search for the truth.
Netflix has moved ‘A Toxic Love Story’ from July 22 to July 23. The documentary can be seen from Thursday.
