And three! Belgian Tim Merlier won the 12th stage of the Tour de France in Chalon-sur-Saône, Thursday July 16, by winning in the sprint.
The Soudal Quick-Step runner beat the Dutchman Olav Kooij and the Belgian Jasper Philipsen during a massive sprint marked by a violent fall notably involving the Colombian Fernando Gaviria and the Frenchman Dorian Godon in the last meters.
The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar retains the yellow jersey with a lead of 3 minutes and 36 seconds over the Dane Jonas Vingegaard and 4:06 over the Belgian Remco Evenepoel.

Friday’s stage
The 13th stage will be the only one of the Tour to exceed the 200 km mark. “Its atypical profile favors adventurers, but the formation of a breakaway could take time to settle. We will have to wait to pass Besançon, then greet Thibaut Pinot in his stronghold of Mélisey, before seeing the great difficulty of the finale,” explains Christian Prudhomme, the tour director.
