Very good news for fans of The Lord of the Rings! Andy Serkis announces the start of production in a special video. With the first images from the set, the director shows that work is underway on the latest film in the franchise: The Hunt for Gollum.
When in the cinema?
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is a spin-off and takes place between the events of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) and the first part of The Lord of the Rings. We’ll have to be patient a little longer before we see the newest addition to the beloved LOTR-to be able to admire the universe; The Hunt for Gollum will be released in theaters on December 16, 2027.
Well-known and new cast members
The Hunt for Gollum means a very nice return to Middle-earth for many fans of the franchise. This largely has to do with the returning cast. We see Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood returns as Frodo and Serkis once again takes on the role of Gollum. New faces joining the cast include Anya Taylor-Joy, Kate Winslet, Jamie Dornan and Leo Woodall.
