
This is a first. Paris has chosen to reveal the name of the unit of the Russian Federal Service (FSB) which has been carrying out “malicious cyber activities for espionage purposes” in France for years. In a statement published Monday July 13, the spokesperson for French diplomacy attributed these “activities” to unit 61 240 of the 16th center of the FSB, known by specialists for conducting electromagnetic intelligence operations (interception of signals and communications), cyberespionage and long-term computer intrusions.
