She will run for president for the fourth time. Marine Le Pen announced on Tuesday July 7 that she would be the candidate of the National Rally in the 2027 election, despite her conviction on appeal for embezzlement of European funds. “Tonight, I am a candidate for the presidential election,” she assured on the set of 8 p.m. on TF1.
A few hours earlier, as in first instance, Marine Le Pen had been found guilty of embezzlement of European funds. The Paris Court of Appeal sentenced her to a €100,000 fine, three years in prison, including one year under an electronic bracelet, and 45 months of ineligibility, 15 of which are suspended, which is exactly the length of time that has elapsed since the first instance judgment.
This decision therefore makes her eligible again. Leaving the audience this Tuesday afternoon, Marine Le Pen made no statement before joining the RN staff at the party’s new headquarters, rue Cortambert in the 16th arrondissement of the capital. On site, executives like MP Jean-Philippe Tanguy, campaign director Julien Sanchez but also her brother-in-law and advisor Philippe Olivier, without forgetting her sister Marie-Caroline Le Pen, helped her make her decision.
