Barely has the June heatwave ended when a new episode of high heat is expected from Sunday July 5, raising fears of an increase in fires. Seven departments are already on orange heatwave alert in the South and Météo France warns of “sometimes strong winds” which risk leading to “a high to very high danger of forest fires”. The Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, said on Friday that he was “very worried” that the fire season had started in the country “a month in advance”.
