“It’s just like I’m not myself,” sighs the main character Get used to it in the freshly revealed trailer. With a good sense of humor, Maike Meijer (herself in the role of the most important character from her novel debut) explores how women can feel when they enter menopause. The Dutch film will appear in theaters later this year.
A matter of mindset
Actress M.’s life is no longer a bed of roses when she is told without hesitation by those around her that she is going through menopause. And that seems to cause a decline in all areas of her life: it is no longer exciting in the bedroom, her teenage son insists on leaving home and a promised role in a major series is denied her at the last minute. Yet M. refuses to accept her condition and embarks on a personal mission to prove herself.
Own experiences
In 2020, Meijer (known for her recurring role in Toren C (2008– )) as a writer with a personal story, in which she shared her own experiences with menopause and how she views the world. About three years ago it was announced that the actress’ bestseller would be made into a film. In addition to Meijer himself, Bas Hoeflaak, Bianca Krijgsman, Hadewych Minis and Beppie Melissen participate in the comedy. There are also small roles for Ilse Warringa (Football Parents) and Ruben van der Meer.

Get used to it is directed by Albert Jan van Rees, who previously made light-hearted cinema films such as Goodbye Friends (2016) in Just like in the movie (2023) made. From October 8 the result can be seen in Dutch galleries.
