Major personal news about Danny Glover, the American actor known for the Lethal Weapon franchise and… The Color Purple (1985). Guest on the talk show Today Glover has announced that he suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.
Later announcement
In the talk show, the actor not only shared that he has Alzheimer’s, he also appears to have been diagnosed with it a number of years ago. The news came in 2022, Glover said, not long before he received an honorary Oscar at the Governor Awards. “I can live with it,” the actor said when announcing the diagnosis, “but it is clear that a lot is changing.”
Take control
Glover’s daughter Mandida was also present Today-broadcast. She supports her father sharing the news, as he still has control over what he does and does not want to say about his condition. In a separate interview with People the now 79-year-old actor says that after hearing the news he was in denial for a long time, and also tries to approach the disease positively. This way he clings more strongly to the things he can still remember.
Following his recurring portrayals of Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weaponfilms (with Mel Gibson) and his starring role in Spielbergs The Color Purple Glover contributed, among other things, to the kick-start of the horror franchise Saw. In 2019, he appeared in the calm psychological drama The Last Black Man in San Francisco.
