Unemployment insurance benefits will not be increased on July 1, Unédic said on Tuesday June 30, following a meeting of its board of directors. The number of votes in favor of an increase was identical to that of votes against, specified the joint body which manages the unemployment insurance system. The last increase in unemployment benefits dates back to July 1, 2025, by 0.5%.
Present for the CGT, Denis Gravouil denounced “an employer excess”. “All five trade union organizations agreed to make a common proposal at 2.41%, corresponding to the increase in the minimum wage and the inflation observed over the last 12 months, and the employers voted against. So the Unédic rules mean that 25 for 25 against, there is no decision,” he explained.
In France, employees are insured against the risk of becoming unemployed, but far from all job seekers benefit from benefits, particularly when they have not worked a sufficient duration or if they have a part-time job.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, 2.7 million people were compensated by unemployment insurance, according to Unédic figures, more than half of whom received less than €1,000 net monthly. The average monthly allowance paid was €1,040.
